About Us

Jim Yurek

Jim’s favorite riding is mountain biking and gravel and his favorite riding locations are Sedona, Arizona and Buffalo Creek, Colorado. Aside from biking, his other pastimes are skiing, golfing, hiking and jet-skiing on Pittsburgh’s three rivers. When he’s not at the shop, he loves to explore new wineries and enjoy “van life” with his wife, Mary Susan. Of his favorite vacation spots, Jim recognizes that as he’s gotten older, he loves quietly relaxing on a Caribbean beach as much as a high-energy adventure trip. 

What does he love about The Bike Lab? Putting smiles on people’s faces when we help them experience the freedom of being on two wheels. We sell fun!

Something you’d be surprised to know about Jim? He was a police officer for over 20 years and he ski raced his entire childhood.

Ian Yurek

Bike Mechanic / Downhill Racer Extraordinaire

Ian races downhill for The Bike Lab in the Downhill Southeast and Monster Energy circuits and it’s his ideal style of riding. He won his division in his first Downhill Southeast race season. His favorite riding destinations are Tennessee and Sedona, Arizona. When he’s not riding or working, he enjoys hunting, fishing and riding his dirt bike. His favorite vacation spot is Tennessee.

What does he love about working at The Bike Lab? Meeting new customers.
Something you’d be surprised to learn about Ian? He used to live in Bradenton, Florida and Seattle, Washington.

Ashley Price

 
Marketing & Customer Relations Manager / Life of the Party

Ashley’s favorite riding is mountain biking and rails-to-trails. She has tried downhill and it was pretty awesome! She’s hoping for some new DH adventures in the future. Her favorite places to ride are Boyce Park, Deer Lakes, Snowshoe Mountain Resort, and any Pittsburgh-local rails-to-trails. She’s always up for a fun time exploring new places! Ashley loves to make things by hand and with love, ranging from food to art. She also enjoys off-roading side-by-side adventures with her cousin, hiking with her family and anything water-related in the summer. When she’s not working, you can catch her traveling with her family. She’s a full-time mom to three awesome kids and travels in support of her daughters’ competitive cheerleading adventures and whatever hobby her son is involved with at the time. Ashley loves to try new restaurants, breweries, and coffee shops. You’ll also catch her biking and helping out the Plum Mustang MTB team. She loves adventures and is always on the prowl for a new hiking spot, waterfall or abandoned place to explore. After a long day, you can find her curled up on the couch with her two dachshunds. Her favorite vacation spots are anywhere Disney-related, a beach or adventure-related. Come to think of it, anywhere really!

 
What does she love about working at The Bike Lab? Having this small tight-knit “family” that makes it feel like you’re never “working.” Plus, like Jim says, “we sell fun!” Ashley loves that she can share her passion for biking with others.

 
Something you’d be surprised to learn about Ashley? She also runs a travel agency. She loves to share her passion for biking with others but also wants to share her passion for travel too! Pop into the shop and meet Ashley!

Joe Wegler

Bike Mechanic / Master of Bike Wizardry

Joe’s favorite biking is downhill and rails-to-trails. He loves to whip in (the state of) Washington, North Carolina and, locally, Tower Hill Trail Center, Alameda Park, and Frick Park. When he’s not biking or working, you can catch Joe taking photographs, running RC cars, camping and hiking. When he’s not greetin’ and meetin’ customers at The Bike Lab, he’s either relaxing at home or enjoying an adventure somewhere on his bike. His favorite vacation spots are Asheville, NC and anywhere lost in the woods.

 
What does he love about working at The Bike Lab? Getting other people on bikes, meeting new people and learning new stuff about bikes.

 
Something you’d be surprised to know about Joe? He worked on a horse farm for six years and also as a pipeline worker. Stop in and say ‘hello’ to Joe!

Andrew Slaugenhaupt

Part-Time Bike Mechanic / E-Bike Aficionado 

Drew’s favorite riding is mountain biking and his preferred riding locations are Boyce Park, White Oak Park, Pleasant Valley Park and Frick Park.  When he’s not biking, he enjoys playing ice hockey, golfing, fishing and playing the guitar. Drew is also enrolled in Seminary studies at Maranatha Baptist University, pursuing a Master’s Degree in Bible. He’s also involved in several local veterans organizations. He is a proud United States Army veteran. 

Drew and his wife enjoy visiting Shenandoah National Park and Lake Erie. Lake Erie is close to home but still feels like it’s far away. 

His favorite part of working at The Bike Lab? The satisfaction of building new bikes and servicing customers’ bikes. 

Something you’d be surprised to know about Drew? He is more comfortable on ice skates than his own two feet. He started to ice skate when he was three years old!

Oscar

 
Shop Dog / Official Greeter

Oscar is one of two shop dogs that belong to Jim and his family. Oscar is a chocolate Labrador Retriever and the inspiration for our logo. He’s proud of that fact and thinks it makes him a local pseudo-celebrity. He’s a social guy and is excited to welcome new and long-time customers. He’s usually the first face you’ll see when you arrive at the shop.

 
Oscar loves to hike and go on long walks with his family. He also loves to go on mountain bike rides with Jim at Pleasant Valley Park and Seven Springs Mountain Resort. He has a favorite chair at home that he sleeps in every night and when his family arrives home, he loves to greet them at the door with one of his toys in his mouth, his version of a welcome gift.

 
When he’s not at the shop, he loves to explore new dog-friendly wineries and Harvest Host locations with Jim and his wife.

Tucker

 
Shop Dog / Dog Merch Model

Tucker is one of two shop dogs that belong to Jim and his family. He’s a Yellow Labrador Retriever who has never met a body of water he doesn’t love, including muddy puddles. He loves a MTB ride with Jim and never passes up a chance to go for a car ride. He loves his friends at doggie daycare and most days at the shop, can be found snoozing under the office desk.

 
His whitening face makes him look well beyond his years but he’s young and affectionate at heart. His favorite place in the world is in the comforts of his parents’ bed, day or night. When he’s not at The Bike Lab, his favorite trips involve swimming in a lake or ocean but he’s happy to tag along wherever “van life” takes the family.
